Truths I Believe

These are the things I'm admitting to you...

Sometimes I don't know what to believe.
Sometimes I don't know who to trust or how far.
Sometimes this very world confuses me.
I don't know why things happen the way they do, and I can't always see which things I'm supposed to do myself.

But these things I do believe, however naive they may be.

I believe the world is full of goodness.
I believe that we each have great capacity for good and for hope and for great wonderful things.
I believe that some people choose a different path. I don't know why that is.
But I believe that most people have that capacity for good.
I believe that, whatever befalls us, there is a way through it and out of it.
I believe that we, each of us, mess up... a lot.
I believe this makes us people who make mistakes and people who need forgiveness and people who need grace.

Sometimes I think this all just makes me naive. These stubborn beliefs that I can't let go of.

and yet they are mine

  1. I agree wholeheartedly. Very well put. People need grace every day. Grace for unkindness. Grace for ignorance. Grace for bad choices. Grace for being too human some days. We all are people. I am people.

    1. I am always grateful to have my little McKenzie... her sweet heart overflows where mine sometimes wants to be cynical and she reminds me to forgive.
