Lost in Darkness

Life isn't always pretty. I'd like it to be. But, it isn't.

There is pettiness. There is dishonesty. There is unkindness and selfishness and horrors of self that I can't even comprehend to exist sometimes.

That darkness can be overwhelming. To know that it's there waiting... I get lost in it. It's heavy and overpowering, and makes me wonder how on earth we can win out when it's always there.

But like a candle spills light into the night, so hope throws a single chance into that darkness. And like a candlelight service at midnight, hope can light the candles of those around us, too....  until hope isn't just one light in the dark, but hundreds and thousands and millions.

And how can the darkness win against that?
